Value and growth
Know the differences, discover the opportunity.
Discover the powerful potential of growth stocks
Growth stocks represent companies with accelerating
earnings that result from breakthrough
products or services and fast-growing markets.
Many investors crave their growth potential,
which often means they sell at premium prices.
Typically, growth stocks offer high-speed
earnings and growth potential, but with lower
dividends than value stocks. In rising markets,
growth stocks tend to perform better than value
stocks, although in declining markets, they are
likely to fall further than their value counterparts
because of their lofty prices. Following a market
decline, however, these companies are typically
poised for a rebound.
Uncover opportunity in undervalued stocks
You may not realize it, but value stocks offer a
great opportunity in the equity arena. That’s
because these stocks are often from companies
that have established, well-known names. Many
of these companies have long and sound track
records, but may be passed over for more immediate,
aggressive investment opportunities. As a
result, these stocks are “on sale” at a price lower
than many experts feel they are actually worth.
Historically, over full market cycles, value stocks have matched or outperformed
growth stocks. In falling markets, value stocks generally do not decline as
much as growth stocks because they are already low priced. Plus, because of
their dividend-paying abilities, these stocks can provide a cushion in a downturn.

Consider a combination of value and growth
Most often, growth and value stock performance
moves in opposite directions and it’s impossible to
predict how they will act in the future. Owning a combination of value
and growth funds offers the potential to smooth
out the ride without sacrificing overall returns.
